"Footprints," named after the famous poem, is a story about family, love, and sacrifice. Tommy Russo, an unknown high school football talent, faces the new season at Thomas Aquinas High School as a long shot to fulfill his dream of playing college football. With his faith in question by the recent passing of his mother, Tommy's ultimate test lies ahead. His father, Charlie, is diagnosed with terminal cancer and is given a limited time to live.
The head coach of Thomas Aquinas High School leaves a week before the football season starts, placing the team in the hands of the inexperienced and mysterious John Caduto. The newly hired guidance counselor, Father James DeAngelis, is John's only friend and assistant coach. Father DeAngelis, who was transferred from the New York City Mission of Christ, a Manhattan homeless shelter, steps into his new job while keeping one crucial secret. He recently nurtured John back to life after finding him homeless in the street.
As the Thomas Aquinas Saints experience unexpected success, Charlie's health continues to deteriorate, forcing Tommy to make a choice. John's past is discovered, placing his future in jeopardy. Father DeAngelis' beliefs are challenged, threatening the foundation of his vocation. All three approach their darkest hour as their faith is tested.
